Finding the right bottle of wine can be tricky and downright frustrating. You can sometimes notice yourself walking from aisle to aisle trying to find the right wine, and when you do, you’re either never satisfied, or end up with something that tastes so-so. Picking the wrong bottle of wine is normal for me but what’s worse is when you’re rushing to a dinner party and find yourself staring at a row of wine bottles only to pick the worst tasting wine just because the bottle was either decorative or uniquely labeled.
Picking the wrong bottle of wine downright sucks. Hell, after a long day at the office, a horrible bottle of wine can mess up the rest of the night. No-one likes going to bed unsatisfied, and especially when you’re going to bed alone. Honestly, I would prefer hearing from my significant other (that’s if I had one) that he has a headache then go to bed miserable because I purchased a bottle of wine I disliked.
But enough about bad tasting wine. Whether you’re a connoisseur of wine or not, finding the right wine can be tricky. I love tasting wine, and when I taste a good one, I often feel like I’m on “Cloud Nine.” When was the last time you had a glass of wine that made you feel like you were on cloud nine? I can guarantee, you can count the times on your hands.
Well Kinksters, I’ve found a bottle of wine that tastes so heavenly that I had to stop and chat with the founder. You will not believe me, but the wine is called Cloud No. 9. Yes, you read it right. It was so tasty, smooth and plentiful I can’t stop daydreaming about my next bottle.
I was fortunate enough to be attending an event hosted Mykel C. Smith Creative, and the owner of this phenomenal wine was there. I had an opportunity and the pleasure of chatting with the CEO & Founder, Christian Butler. He was charming, his passion, and love for this wine are what made me stop tasting long enough to learn more about this wine with a name that matches its taste.
Christian is a winemaker with a true entrepreneurial spirit. His early experimentations with concentrating grape flavours earned him a Commonwealth Government grant and European scholarship. After graduation he ventured into the commercial world of wine and spirits, serving on the tasting panel and buying team for the Wine Society, and then at Fosters Group. But the production loomed large in his imagination and he struck out to produce Vintages as a cellar hand at Sevenhill Cellars in the Clare Valley, and at Coriole in McLaren Vale. From there his wine journey took him to the far corners of the globe, and he was hooked.
“For many grapes, the art of fermentation is what releases the flavour, but here in Marlborough it is striking to see pre-existing flavours before we even begin this process. There is a distinct line between the two, and it inspires me every time the vintage comes around. Marlborough is a place like no other. Here you can taste Sauvignon Blanc grapes off the vine and see the wine in the glass before it is even made.”(Cloud No. 9)
What sealed the deal for me was the personal message on the bottle from founder Christian Butler. The message reads, “If you have travelled to Marlborough you know it is a special place. It’s all blue skies with clean and green fields and clear running streams- here anything is possible. Just like the Cloud No. 9 girl – the magic of Marlborough comes from its purity. You can feel the strong connection that exists between the land its people. The essence of the valley lifts you to great heights and the resulting wines are an expression of its purity, freshness and style.”
Cloud No. 9 is Kinkster approved!
