What is Naturopathic medicine? Well, it is an alternative practice based on natural and holistic principles towards a healthy lifestyle to heal the body naturally. In our society, we rely on pharmaceutical drugs for everything, for example, if we have a headache we take a pill, some people also take a pill to lose weight. Naturopathic medicine teaches us how to eat, exercise, handle stress and to include spiritual needs to heal our bodies naturally. When we do not include a spiritual practice, we lose touch in healing the whole, body, mind, and soul. When these three are not in alignment, we are not complete, and lose touch with the ability to be one with our self.
Naturopathic medicine main three principles state that “once our life-force has been re-established through a natural way of living, our vitality helps us to heal ourselves.” The second principle states that ” the symptoms of a disorder are proof of the life-force not at work. We are physically, mentally and emotionally well, when these factors are balanced and in alignment.” The third principle states that” the holistic perception of humans as whole beings with physical, emotional and spiritual needs, rather than someone who relies on antibiotics for a cure.”
Naturopathy identifies and eliminates root causes in one’s ailment during a consultation. When you visit a naturopathic practitioner, they provide you with a preventative method for nutrition, exercise, how to relax, encourage a spiritual awareness, which is fundamental for the patient well-being. Other forms of therapy play a big role in one’s ability to be whole. For example, acupuncture, homeopathy, and herbal medicine, spiritual practice, yoga, meditation, music, dance, all are important to the naturopathic practice. Fasting, detox and adding the proper vitamins and minerals to one’s diet, also very important to our well-being. A raw food diet which includes, raw fruit, vegetables, and nuts, helps to boost the immune system is also highly recommended. When we combine a plant-based diet to our bodies, it boosts our immune system against infection and aging.
As a holistic health coach, I rely on these methods for my clients. We live in a fast paced environment, and we need to be stress-free, and take steps to take care of our bodies. When you apply meditation as part of your daily routine especially during the start of your day, you become more relaxed and free. More traditional doctors are adding naturopathic medicine to their practice. My mother’s doctor includes traditional medicine and naturopathic medicine. It is especially rewarding for the elderly who were brought up on healing oneself naturally.
Next time you visit a doctor for an ailment, check to see if the doctor includes naturopathic medicine in his or her practice. You will be a better person for it, whole and complete in body, mind, and soul.
